Mary’s strength as a midwife enabled her to encourage other midwives and service users to find their own inner strength. Her assertive phrases are now well known by women and midwives alike. Mary says she learnt to be assertive at the very first ARM meetings in the 1970s, through roleplay, ‘sharing the skills’ sessions, and through solidarity with a sisterhood of likeminded midwives and students. She and her beloved husband, Joe, built a boat in which they sailed the Mediterranean with 3 young children. Mary’s strong independent spirit was echoed by her love of sailing. The love of her family further emboldened her spirit, and in a blog by Midwife Gloria Lemay she described the fierce protectiveness that parenthood can bring. She was separated from her baby but demanded that he should be brought to her immediately. Whilst a nurse, Mary suffered a back injury and spent the last half of her first pregnancy in hospital on traction. Even when Mary retired from clinical practice (she worked well into her 70s) she continued to share her skills of breech birth using the oral and visual traditions of storytelling and sharing pictures of the women she’d cared for. Mary embarked on a nursing, then midwifery career, which spanned a period of five decades. Her experience of being on the receiving end of care must have given her great insight into the nursing profession. Mary had had a period of very ill health in her youth meaning she spent a long period as a patient in hospital. “I believe that our assumption of power over the women for whose benefit we practise at the beginning of their parenting can begin their disempowerment as parents and take from them the feeling of responsibility for their children on which good parenting depends.” In The Midwife-Mother Relationship, Mary goes on to say, This was an idea she knew would not be popular with many midwives, because a servant may appear to have less power over a woman, but Mary was no stranger to people disagreeing with her. She described midwives as ‘professional servants’. I have often wondered what he would have thought about the changes in the relationships between professionals and their clients since its inception. “ My father had great difficulty paying do ct ors ’ and midwives ’ bills and welcomed the NHS. In her chapter in Mavis Kirkham’s book “The Midwife-Mother Relationship” 1, Mary says, Mary’s father was a Clydeside ship worker. At this time all families had to pay for services from a midwife or doctor. Mary grew up with stories about her mother’s midwife, who must have made quite an impression on Mary as she remembered her by name. Mary told me how her own mother had informed her midwife that she would certainly not be using formula milk, and she would be nursing her baby (Mary). Mary was born in a time when formula milk was being sold to mothers as “The Food of Royal Babies”. I often wondered what made her such a great midwife, and I am sure her formative years were instrumental in moulding the strong woman I knew and loved. What set her firmly amongst the greatest midwives of our time was not just her 50 years’ experience as a midwife, but who she was as a person. I was also privileged to have later worked with Mary as an independent midwife, and taught workshops with her over a 9-year period. I was impressed then that this famous midwife was very down to earth, and had faced similar challenges to all of us in her long career. I first met Mary at an Association of Radical Midwives (ARM) meeting about 18 years ago. She was known nationally, and internationally, as an expert midwife and breech birth specialist. Mary Cronk’s family announced that Mary had passed away on the morning of 21st December 2018. To read or download this Journal in a magazine format on ISSUU, please click here It's just that some of the new presets are NOT FOR THE BRUSH TOOL. All your old presets are there, plus heaps more from Kyle Webster. You need to adopt a different view set with brush presets now, because as you have found, it has all changed. However, I have had occasion to want to use another brush instead of what is on the brush preset and, rather than creating a new preset, I would prefer just to, TEMPORARILY, use another brush. I understand that is the nature of a brush preset. When I click on a brush preset (say one of Kyles Brushes for example), it oftentimes comes with a pre-defined mixer brush or normal brush. That's it! I hope you truly enjoyed this tutorial. Thanks Trevor.Dennis, apologies for my lack of clarity. Then just click on the image to have the text that you created appear there. Just as you did with the logo, you can also make this text/brush larger or smaller using the left and right bracket keys. Also, don't forget to create a new layer before you stamp your text on the image. If you don't see your text automatically appear on your image, make sure to go up to the top, click on the dropdown and select your brush tool. Then go back to your image and click on the brush. Name your preset - in my example I will name it running text brush. Go to Edit and select Define Brush Preset. Now, to turn this copywrite text into a brush preset you will need to follow the same steps we talked about above for the logo brush. Next, select the Photoshop crop tool in the tools panel and try to crop in pretty tight around the text. photography name, website address, etc.) When you are done typing, click on it and drag it towards the middle of the square. Go ahead and type in the copywrite text you want (i.e. This is easy to fix, just click on your text color box and select black or whatever color you want your text to be. If you can't see your text as you start typing, you probably have your text color set to white. For this tutorial, I am just going to use something simple. Next, grab your text tool in the tools panel, and select a font style and size that you like. Set your resolution to be 300 and your background content can be white. You can crop this later to match your text perfectly. Note: we can't really make make your file too big or too small, so start by making it 1,000 pixels by 1,000 pixels. We need to work in pixels, so if you see inches or something else, click on your dropdown and select pixels. Next, let's go over how to turn simple text into a Photoshop Brush that you can also use to easily stamp your images.įirst, go to File>New. In the menu options at the top of Photoshop, click on the down arrow next to your brush selector and choose your logo brush from the brush options. The next time you want to use the logo brush that you just created, choose the Brush Tool. You can also easily resize and move your logo to another area of your image if you wish using the move tool, located in your tools panel. If the logo is a little bit more bold than you had wanted, you can reduce that by bringing down your layer opacity a bit, until you are happy with the results. If your logo is not white and you want it to be, you can simply double click on the top color square, select white and press okay. If you have your foreground color at the bottom of your tools panel set to white, your logo color should be white, which in most cases is good. Keep in mind, you can make your logo/brush larger or smaller by using the left and right bracket icons. Once the new layer is open, make sure your brush opacity is set to 100%, and just click on your image wherever your want your logo to be applied. To do that, create a new layer by going down to the bottom of the layers panel and clicking on the little square with the folded up tab. I usually recommend to stamp your logo on a layer rather than directly onto the background of your image, mainly because it would be difficult to change your stamp later on. To add your logo to am image, open your image in Photoshop. You will notice that your brush will automatically appear on your screen, and it will look exactly like the logo. After naming your brush preset, press OK. Make sure to name your preset so you can use it in again in the future. Next, go to the top menu bar, select Edit>Define Brush Preset. Keep in mind your logo can be on any color background - transparent, white, black, etc. Okay, so let's get started with a Photoshop logo brush. How to Turn a Logo into a Photoshop Brush In this tutorial, I will show you an easy way to turn your current logo or text into a Photoshop brush preset so you can easily "stamp" your watermark on each image before saving for web use! This is a HUGE timesaver! Do you spend too much time opening and placing your logo or copyright text on each and every image before putting them online? In both cases, he can utilize and combine different animal powers in combat and perform Scanning Charge ( スキャニングチャージ, Sukyaningu Chāji) finishers.Īfter being infected with the purple Core Medals, Eiji gains the use of the Medagabryu ( メダガブリュー, Medagaburyū), which can interchange from Axe Mode ( アックスモード, Akkusu Mōdo) and Bazooka Mode ( バズーカモード, Bazūka Mōdo) to perform the Grand Of Rage ( グランド・オブ・レイジ, Gurando Obu Reiji) and Strain Doom ( ストレインドゥーム, Sutorein Dūmu) finishers respectively. Using the Core Medals, Eiji can assume varying Combo ( コンボ, Konbo) forms via a specific color-coded set or mix and match using Core Medals of differing colors. The Core Medals themselves are coin-like items created by King OOO's alchemists 800 years prior that draw from different animal characteristics and form the Greeed's core. Regardless of which form he is using, he also utilizes the Kougami Foundation's Medajaribur ( メダジャリバー, Medajaribā) sword and Ride Vendor ( ライドベンダー, Raido Bendā) motorcycle to combat the Greeed. In the crossover film Kamen Rider Heisei Generations Final: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Rider, Eiji creates a temporary simulacrum of Ankh via a replica body created by Kaisei Mogami.Įiji utilizes three Core Medals ( コアメダル, Koa Medaru) in conjunction with the OOO Driver ( オーズドライバー, Ōzu Doraibā) belt and the O-Scanner ( オースキャナー, Ō Sukyanā) device to transform into Kamen Rider OOO. Eiji later receives help from a revived, future version of Ankh and regains his Rider powers during his and Kamen Rider Fourze's fight against Lem Kannagi. Following the battle, Eiji realizes the power he sought comes from those he has bonds with and resumes his travels in the hopes of finding a way to resurrect Ankh.ĭuring the events of the crossover film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Fourze & OOO: Movie War Mega Max, Eiji works with the Kougami Foundation as part of his efforts to resurrect Ankh. Recalling his desire to gain the power to help others, Eiji eventually purges the purple Core Medals from his body, but loses his Rider powers and Ankh after the latter gives his life to help Eiji defeat Maki. Eiji agrees on the condition that he be allowed to use his Rider powers to help others and later allies himself with the Kougami Foundation amidst his battles with the Greeed.Īfter falling victim to Kiyoto Maki and the purple Core Medals due to his lack of selfish desires, Eiji slowly becomes a Greeed himself until the Kougami Foundation's head, Kousei Kougami, tells him that the only way to counteract the purple Core Medals is to acquire a desire of his own. Returning to Japan to fund his travels, Eiji takes a part-time job at the Kougami Art Museum, but encounters the Greeed Ankh, who gives him the means to transform into Kamen Rider OOO and convinces him to fight Ankh's fellow Greeed in exchange for Cell Medals. As a result, he renounced his lifestyle and became a wandering vagabond willing to help those in need. Main characters Eiji Hino Įiji Hino ( 火野 映司, Hino Eiji) is a politician's son who grew up in a lavish environment until his life was changed when he attempted to use his fortune to save a small African village, only to accidentally fund a civil war that killed a young girl he befriended. There’re programs, which could convert an embroidery file from the “unreadable” format to the “readable” one. Usually embroidery machines cannot read all formats, but only those, which are listed in their manuals (so read manuals). But just in case… Format of machine embroidery design (file) is the “language” in which this design is “written”. The name “formats of machine embroidery” is pretty explanatory itself, so we don’t think anyone has any problems with figuring it out. Now that we have covered all the important info on hoops, let’s continue with the formats. So keep an eye on the updates, provided by manufacturers through their dealers or on their official sites. This means that an upgrade might “expand” the capacity of the embroidery machine to recognize and work with hoops of other sizes. Some manufactures (and Husqvarna is one of them) offer upgradable software to some of their models. If, say, the design is larger than your machine can “handle”, it could fail to stitch it correctly or not recognize it at all. That is why it’s important to learn compatibility of your embroidery machine with hoops of different sizes.īefore getting a new machine embroidery design you must check your machine’s sewing field capacity. If there were no such thing and by mistake you put the wrong hoop, the needle could brake against its frame, causing other problems too. In simple words it’s like protection for the hardware, installed by manufacturers. This seeming inconvenience has to do with the “sewing field” limitation of each particular embroidery machine. Not all machines are programmed to recognized and work with all sizes. It means that you can’t go and adjust just any hoop to your machine and expect it to stitch on. So, though it’s totally possible to embroidery small designs in large hoops, if perfection is your wish, use more compatible analogues.Īnother thing with the size of hoops is that each embroidery machine can work only with the hoop sizes that are preset in its “brain”. As the needle puts much pressure on the hooped fabric while stitching, the center of the to-be-embroidered area will be more vulnerable to stretching. Why? The thing is in the tension that fabric gets while being hooped. Why so? Well, because better results come from the closest possible match between sizes of the hoops and designs. Bigger is not always betterĮxperienced embroiderers like to say that there can’t be too many hoops in one’s collection. Formats: VP3/VIP/HUS/DST/SHV Husqvarna Hoop Sizes and formatsīefore we actually speak about Husqvarna hoop sizes and formats for embroidery, let’s speak about the topic in general. The cool thing is that these are in addition to the original selection, and you can carry all at the same time, alternating weapons as you go.Īnother worthy addition is the "upgrade" department in the bike shop. Rashers are now able to zap opponents with a 50,000 volt cattle prod, blind rivals with a Mace can, or simply empty oil can in their path (great for that "Slip Slidin" Away" feeling). So what's new? Well, first and foremost are the additions of three new weapons. OK, so there are some small tweaks and improvements, but not enough to make this a worthy purchase if you've got either or both of the other two versions. The idea is still to race 15 other riders over a selection of courses, earning money along the way to buy bigger and faster bikes. Road Rash 3 is essentially a repackaged version of the same game that EA has been selling to Genesis owners for the last four years. Robocop 2 wasn't a patch on its predecessor, the fourth 24-inch "Meat-o-rama" pizza of an evening is never as appetizing as the first, and Road Rash 3 is a game that just ain't what it used to be. Sequels are never as good as the original. Some have a limited amount of hits such as the cattle prod. Once depleted they will fall, but watch out as you also have a stamina bar! One thing that Road Rash 3 kicked up several notches was the weapons as there are many more in this game. You can punch and kick them and as you do, their stamina bar will deplete. You are still racing on your bike and as well as finishing, you have to fight other bikers. The core gameplay has not radically changed over Road Rash 2. I liked this aspect of the game and thought it was a nice addition. As well as this, you can upgrade your bike in several categories to make it faster, handle better, and so on. However, you do also have to maintain your bike by repairing it. You earn money as you race and you can flat out buy a new bike which is cool. This is most evident in the way you look after your bike. I feel that with Road Rash 3, EA tried to walk that fine line between being an arcade-style game and being more realistic. |
